Why did the Vikings attack? Year 5 will have a very exciting day where they will have a whole day at school as a Viking! They will come to school dressed as a Viking, do Viking jobs and learn just like a Viking would have. They will use sources of evidence to deduce information about the past and by the end of the topic have a broad overview of life in Britain and some major events from the rest of the world.
What does The Great Outdoors have to offer? Year 5 will describe and understand key aspects of: physical geography - climate zones, rivers and the water cycle. Using their geographical knowledge, they will use four figure grid references to build their knowledge of the United Kingdom and the wider world and use fieldwork to observe, measure, record and present the human and physical features in the local area using a range of methods, including sketch maps, plans and graphs, and digital technologies. Year 5 are in luck this term, with a trip to Wandle Valley Park and a residential trip to Kingswood!

Starting with the Solar System, they will look at how ideas about space have changed over time, before finally exploring what causes us to experience night and day on Earth. They will use their mathematical skills to model the dimensions of our Solar System and their English skills to write a science genre fiction story and various explanations of their findings throughout the topic. Year 5 will also use models, diagrams and even a bit of drama to explain the scientific ideas: what is in and at the centre of our solar system. As scientists, they will need to use all their scientific evidence to support several theories. To infinity and beyond Year 5…
