All Saints' C of E Primary School

Welcome to Reception

We pride ourselves on offering our Reception children an excellent start to their schooling. We strongly believe that children learn best through hands-on, practical experiences. We carefully plan lessons and offer provision which meets the needs of all of our children, giving them an appropriate level of challenge. We follow the children’s interests based on our observations of their learning and the next steps to move on their learning.

We have a consistent approach from our Nursery to Reception with a combination of adult-led teaching and child-initiated learning. We offer the option of ‘free-flow,’ (the option to choose their learning either inside or outside in our new outdoor classroom throughout the day). Our curriculum is enquiry-based and our half-termly topic centres on a question we want to find out more about. We strive to challenge our children to help them become critical thinkers and teach our curriculum in a creative and fun way!

Parents are kept up-to-date on their child’s learning through our termly newsletter as well as weekly overviews of some of our activities sent home in their home learning books. We let parents know what our learning focuses are for the following week and how you can help support your child with their learning at home. We offer parents evenings as well as workshops where you can find out more about the Literacy schemes, (Read, Write INC and Talk for Writing) we use in class and how you can support your child with this at home. We value our school partnership with parents and work closely together to ensure your child has the best possible start to their time in school.

Each term we focus our learning around a different topic for each year group, you can find out more from the newsletter that your class teacher sends out at the begining of each term or download a copy here.
