Once children finish the Read Write Inc programme which for a majority of children is in Year 2 and Year 3, they will have comprehension lessons which focus on either a text or a chapter from a book. 

Depending on where a child is on their reading journey, they may be explicitly taught specific reading skill(s): vocabulary, inference, prediction, explanation, retrieval or sequence/summarise, or taught how to integrate combinations of strategies to develop effective comprehension of different texts. Our curriculum provides opportunities for comprehension strategies to be applied independently to a range of different reading tasks, contexts, and subjects.
