Languages, Culture and International Links

At All Saints’, we believe that learning a language opens doors to people, cultures and opportunities. Our Languages Department encourages children to be curious about the world, confident in communicating with others and respectful of different cultures and traditions.

Our language learning reflects our school values of Love, Compassion and Koinonia. We want our children to develop an understanding of others, celebrate diversity and discover the joy of connecting with people beyond their own community.

Exchange Programmes and International Collaborations.

A special part of our languages provision is our year-long partnership with a school in Spain. Our children have the opportunity to connect with pupils from another country, share their learning and discover what everyday life is like for children beyond their own community.

Through this partnership, children exchange knowledge, traditional songs, games, celebrations and aspects of everyday life, developing their language skills while building friendships and gaining a genuine understanding of another culture.

Celebrating Inclusion and Diversity.

Throughout the year, we provide opportunities for the whole school community to celebrate the languages, cultures and diversity represented at All Saints’ and beyond.

Our Lingo Leaders play an important role in these celebrations, sharing their knowledge, leading activities and helping other children to discover more about languages and cultures from around the world.

Once a month, our Lingo Leaders lead a short Language of the Month Collective Worship, introducing the school community to a different language. Children discover where the language is spoken, its origins and cultural context, before learning three useful expressions: hello, goodbye and thank you.

Using a world map, pupils locate countries where the language is spoken and discover an interesting fact about their people or culture. These short, interactive sessions give our Lingo Leaders opportunities to develop confidence in public speaking and leadership, while encouraging the whole school to celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity.

Cross-curricular Projects and International Connections

At All Saints’, we believe languages become even more meaningful when they connect with other areas of learning. Our children experience exciting links between Spanish, Music and English.

Through songs, rhythm, stories, poems, traditional dances, performance and creative activities, children develop their vocabulary and pronunciation while exploring the connections between language, culture and creativity.

Learning for Life

Learning another language provides children with skills that extend far beyond the classroom. It develops communication, confidence, memory, creativity, problem-solving and resilience — skills that support children throughout their education and later life.

From business and travel to education, science, technology and the arts, language skills can open doors to a wide range of future opportunities and help our children grow into confident, curious and outward-looking global citizens.
