1. What does PE look like at All Saints'?
On visiting a PE lesson at All Saints', you will see well-structured lesson plans unfold, inline with our whole school All Saints' Approach: Engage, Skill-Building and Create-Evaluate.
Children are inspired by key figures, learning about their journeys to success. They are fascinated and engaged by the opportunities to explore sports, and be inspired by visiting sporting grounds and well-known sporting venues. Clear progression is established, with each lesson building upon prior knowledge, with a focus on skill-building. Varied teaching strategies, as well as small-group activities and peer collaboration, promote engagement. By the end of each unit, children are able to collaborate to create final sequences and be part of a full game, evaluating their performance for effectiveness, acknowledging their successes and identifying what should be better, or differently, next time.
Our curriculum offers exposure to an array of sports, from gymnastics to NfL, encouraging pupils to discover new interests and extend their talents. Rotating through different sports ensures a well-rounded experience, and pupils have the opportunity to build their skills overtime. Children also participate in many different extracurricular sports clubs to further explore their passions.
Emphasis is placed on adapting sports to accommodate varying abilities and needs, fostering inclusivity and a positive attitude towards physical activity. Beyond the physical skills of individual sports, pupils learn about the principles of maintaining overall health and fitness.
Nutrition education is integrated into the school's curriculum to promote a holistic understanding of well-being, particularly though PSHE and science lessons.
Overall, the comprehensive implementation of the PE curriculum at All Saints' Church of England Primary School reflects a commitment to excellence, inclusivity, and the holistic development of each student. Through collaboration, structured lessons, diverse sporting opportunities, and a focus on healthy living, our PE program strives to instil a lifelong love for physical activity and well-being.
