Nursery Admissions and 30-hour offer

Nursery Admissions

The School is responsible for all nursery admissions ourselves.

Nursery Spaces available

In Nursery we can accommodate up to 26 children in both the morning nursery and afternoon nursery. However, we offer a combination of both part-time and full-time places (all term time only)

  • Part Time Spaces - Children with part-time places will attend either in the mornings (from 8.30am to 11.30am Monday to Friday) or in the afternoons (12.30pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday).
  • Full Time Spaces - Children with full time places will attend from 8.30pm to 3.30pm Monday to Friday and must bring a nut-free healthy packed lunch. There is a cost of £6 per child per day who is offered a full time place.

Places will typically, but not always, be made available as follows:

  • 8 full time 30 hours places
  • 22 morning places
  • 22 afternoon places

The school reserves the right to offer unused spaces to families requesting an alternative session, to maximise capacity in the nursery e.g. if we have unused full time places we may convert these to half day sessions or if we have unused half day places we make convert these to full time places.

When applying parents may list their session preferences in priority order. We will use our Admissions Criteria to rank all applicants and work from the top of the list downwards to allocate all available places. This means that a family applying for a full day place may be offered a half day place if all the full day places have been allocated by the time we reach their position in the ranked applicant list.

When is a child eligible for Nursery?

Children are eligible for Nursery the term after their third birthday, and we have intakes in September, January and April. Make sure you apply a least a term before their 3rd birthday, however we accept applications from birth, we will keep it on file until we are reviewing admissions for the term they would be starting in.

Nursery Rising Three Offer (government support for children aged 2 years)

If you have accepted a place in our school nursery for your child, you can request that they join our school as soon as they turn three years of age - without having to wait until the start of the new term.  For example, if your child turns three on 22nd May 2024, and you have been offered, and accepted, a place at our school nursery to start in September 2024, if places are available, your child could join us from 22nd May.

  • From April 2024, the government is offering up to 15 hours free childcare for eligible working families in England with a 2-year-old child.  This offer is also available to families with a 3-year old child who is not yet eligible for mainstream nursery (the school term after their third birthday).  This funding must be applied for through the government’s Childcare Choices scheme and if successful you will be given an eligibility code that you must share with the school - please see the government Childcare Choices website for more information and to apply for a code.
  • Please note we are not admitting 2 year old children at this time, only children who have turned 3 and families wish them to start immediately after their birthday using the government funding.

Foundation Nursery Places (Church Places)

To apply for a Foundation Place please make sure you also download at the bottom of this page the form "Nursery Application Foundation Place Supplementary form" as well. This supplementary form cannot be completed online, as you need to get section 5 filled out and signed by your Priest or Minister and return it to the school directly.

We currently offer a limited number of 30-hour childcare places for nursery age (ages 3-4) children only. These are offered on a first come, first served basis, or when spaces are limited, applying our admissions policy criteria.

Please contact the school office for availability on Phone: 0208 540 3004 or Email: admissions@allsaints.merton.sch.uk

How do you apply for the 30 hours childcare?

You can apply for the 30-hour scheme on the Government website here.

Please note the following when applying for a 30 hours place:

  • The 30-hour funding does not cover the lunchtime hour. This is charged at £6 per day (£30 per week).
  • If you choose not to send your children in due to sickness, or term-time holiday (which is discouraged), charges do still apply whether you have a funded or self-funded place as would be the case in a private nursery setting.

Are you eligible for 30 hours childcare?

If you are eligible, you will be sent a code for 30 hours childcare. You must bring this code to the school office along with your National Insurance number and child's date of birth. Once we have verified your code, you will be offered a place (subject to availability).  We can accept many different child care voucher schemes. Please contact sbm@allsaints.merton.sch.uk for further information on vouchers.

If you are not eligible for 30 hours can you self-fund?

If you are not eligible for the government 30 hours childcare, you may choose to self-fund a space. Your child will receive their 3 hours of government funded ‘free’ nursery provision each day and then the cost of 4 additional self-funded hours (to make up to a full day of provision) is £32 per day (£160 per week).

The availability of self-funded spaces depends, as families eligible for the 30 hours take priority. Contact the school office for further information or if you want to know which childcare voucher schemes we accept email sbm@allsaints.merton.sch.uk
