2. What is the impact of music at All Saints'?

Within Music, we encourage a creative and collaborative environment in which pupils can learn to express and challenge themselves. The success of the curriculum will be assessed via regular formative and summative assessment, lesson observations and skills audits. This will then inform future adaptions of the scheme of work and help to ensure progression is evident throughout the school.

In order to demonstrate that we have accomplished our aims, pupils at All Saints Primary School will:

  • Be enthusiastic and confident in their approach towards music.
  • Over their time at All Saints', our pupils will be given the skills, that build over time, and knowledge to understand the impact that music can have on our lives and cultures and how it can play an integral role in our emotional wellbeing.
  • We aim to give children high aspirations, which will enable them to foster a lifelong love for music and the confidence to continue to play and enjoy music into their adult lives.
  • Be able to create their own rhythms, songs and compose on instruments, being able to evaluate their performances for effectiveness
  • We assess this by ongoing teacher observation, peer and self evaluation and through discussing the learning with the children. This is used in part to identify children’s next steps and is also used to assess children against the progression map for music in line with national curriculum expectations.
  • Our specialist music teacher uses the evidence gathered throughout the year to form a termly assessment which is recorded and shared with parents at the end of each academic year.
  • As part of their ongoing monitoring and evaluation of their subject area, the music teacher scrutinises the data to identify patterns and areas of need.

Our continuing CPD, based on lesson observations and skills audits, ensures that our teachers are up-to-date and confident providers of high quality computing teaching.
